From arranging Royal dinners and taking a national treasure on tour to organising a live talk with speakers on three continents (one of whom was Prince William situated at 800ft altitude), Duncan Welsh has over 18 years’ experience in the events industry. Currently Head of Events at the Serpentine Galleries (his second stint at the pioneering contemporary art gallery), Duncan oversees a non-stop programme of exhibition openings and celebrations in addition to driving revenue through the private hire of the galleries, which is a key part of the Serpentine’s strategy to support its mission to inspire the widest audiences with the possibilities of art and architecture.
Duncan has managed and created events in a number of high-profile venues and raised £3.2million in revenue as Head of Events at The View at the Shard. He’s at his best when he’s keeping clients calm and appreciates nothing more than a happy client enjoying their moment. Duncan began his career programming literary talks at The National Library of Scotland and arranging scientific conferences for Scotland’s National Academy – The Royal Society of Edinburgh.
"I am delighted to be asked to judge this year’s awards. The standard of the entries has always been impressive and it’s exciting when clients push the envelope further. I will be looking for new ideas and unique offerings which demonstrate the creativity of the industry."
